"Amazing wedding night accomodation" |
| Mar 20 2010 |
We chose to stay at Dannah for our wedding night as we wanted something really special and we not disappointed in any way. I have read the negative reviews on here and find it hard to believe that they are talking about the same place. We had the garden room with its huge (6ft bed!) and wonderful bathroom with spa bath. The accomodation was very comfortable and clean - we couldn't have asked for anything more.
Breakfast was brilliant and the staff weren't intrusive but I wouldn't dream of describing them as offhand or unhelpful. In fact they did eveything possible to accomodate our requirements - my husband drove to Dannah the day before our wedding to leave our car there and collect the room key in advance as we were going to be arriving late after the wedding. We went to The Bear and The Black Swan and had great meals at both. Dannah felt like real luxury and we were very glad to have stayed there as we unfortunately had to cancel our honeymoon abroad at the last minute due to ill health - staying at Dannah went some way to making up for not going to Provence for 2 weeks!
However, we were also lucky enough to win Dannah's competition in 2008 and got a free stay in the red room just before christmas, with a day in the leisure cabin thrown in. This was incredible. This time, we got to sample the delights of the tea tray on arrival (yummy homemade cakes and a big pot of tea - very welcome). The Red Room is seriously impressive, large, but so cosy, comfy sofas and a great bed (although it is quite high off the ground, a little step is thoughtfully provided!). Nice bathroom with a great roll-top bath. It was great lying in bed looking at the stars through the velux window (we chose not close the blinds). It was the perfect pre-Christmas get-away and was a really welcome retreat and re-charge from a difficult few months. The leisure cabin was fabulous. Couldn't fault it and when we asked for some fresh milk instead of the UHT pots, we were given a generous jug and I wasn't even charged for the drink I had from the fridge - Joan just shook her head and said 'Don't worry about it it' when I mentioned it.
Dannah is amazing. I am looking forward to a third trip. It is expensive but not for what you get. It is the kind of place where time goes just a little bit slower and you leave feeling that the cares of the world are a little bit lighter. That is priceless.
