“Truly great B&B” |
| Aug 16 2011 |
A two night stay in the Red room was very enjoyable.
The positives:
Lovely room
Great bathroom
A bed to die for
Fabulous self contained Spa
The food platter
Lovely breakfast area
The negatives:
None
Possible improvements:
Danish pastries, croissants at breakfast. – I didn’t want the (great) cooked breakfast on the second morning as we had a long drive and I would have liked croissants to go with my cereal, of which there was a huge choice, but they don’t have that on the buffet table.
Hiring/availability of bikes. - I say that, but with narrow lanes I might be a little intimidated to use!
This is a great B&B and fully deserving of their five stars. The red room where we stayed was a wonderful choice by her indoors. Comfortable seating, lots of artefacts and plentiful tea, coffee and sweeties. Warning: Low beams mean you do have to be attentive, but they do add so much character.
The huge bed was really one of the most comfortable I’ve ever been in and the sheets must have been new as they also were superb. The bathroom has a wonderful blasting (all points) shower and
Finding the place with my satnav was a fail. But people in the surrounding lanes kept us going in the right direction. Warning: The farm is accessed by single lane roads with few passing places. The best route in and out therefore is to Shottle which lessons the distance you need to travel on single track. If you’re used to British country roads it probably doesn’t faze you, but I’ve never liked blind bends on roads I don’t know well with few passing places.
On the Monday we booked the Spa. What a fabulous set-up and location. You get the spa all to yourselves from 12:30 until 9pm. We ordered afternoon tea and the fabulous food platter (using the in spa phone) and took our drinks from the in-room fridge – well stocked with water, beer, wine etc. The weather on the day was pretty poor and we both were slightly under the weather, but it makes little difference. This is a definite must to complete your break at Dannah Farm.
