Derbyshire and the Peak District is an idlyic setting for a break or holiday, offering the tranquility and scenery of the Peak District in addition to the sights, activities and excitement of some of Derbyshires finest attractions such as Chatwsorth House and Alton Towers.
The Peak District itself is comprised of two areas, the White Peaks and the Dark Peaks, which relate to the rock colour and formations of the two areas. The White Peak is limestone landscape with flat plateaus cut by steep-sided valleys or 'dales' , whereas the Dark Peak is a gritstone landscape with dramatic, vast plateaus and long, rocky ridges and edges. There is now also a third character area to the Peak District known as the South West Peak. Landscape here is a mixture of wild expansive moorland with heather on the hill tops, and valleys with hay meadows and pastures .Dannah Farm is situated on the bottom area the South West Peak District.
