The Peak District

The Peak District is an idyllic setting for a short break or holiday. It offers tranquility and scenery, as well as activities and excitement of some of the counties finest attractions. These include Chatsworth House, Alton Towers, Matlock (along with Gullivers Kingdon) and more.

The Peak District itself is comprised of two areas, the White Peaks and the Dark Peaks. The two names refer to to the rock colour and formations of the two areas. The White Peak has a limestone landscape with flat plateaus cut by steep-sided valleys or ‘dales’. The Dark Peak is a grit stone landscape with dramatic, vast plateaus with long, rocky ridges and edges. It’s soil is predominantly peat based, hence the ‘dark’ name. Dannah Farm B&B is situated in the southern area of the south west Peak District, at the foor of the national park and around 20-25 minutes away from Ashbourne, the gate to the Peak District.
